Meet Our Broadcasters

This week’s featured broadcaster:

Pat Leeds

Afternoon Classics Wednesdays, 1–2 pm

Afternoon Classics is back on the air. Expect anything from a Bach concerto to a Wagner opera, with a whole lot in between. Pat’s been interested in the classics since childhood.

The Rockin’ ’50s & ’60s Show Wednesdays, 2–4 pm

This show is the cornerstone of Pat’s broadcasting with KFOK, starting in 2002, and the songs are from his music library covering the fabulous golden era of traditional rock and roll and pop. It’s fun & nostalgic music. Retired from a 36-year banking/finance career, Pat is a ham radio operator (KD6APA), a private pilot (he owns a Cessna 182), a member of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Air Squadron, and past president of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 1074, and Friends of the Georgetown Airport.

Hi, I’d like to do a follow-up monthly summary of the Georgetown Divide Public Utility District meetings. Timing would depend on whether the Best of Gold Country Culture follows my science program or not. It wouldn’t be long – likely 15-20 min.

Hi, my name is David I’ve lived in Placerville since 1979. I moved up from Oakland where I listened to KFAT out of Gilroy and KPFA out of Berkley. I love community based radio that highlight local artists, bands , organizations and are supported locally. I would like to start a station in Placerville, or work together at expanding KFOK listeners by boosting their signal? I have very little know how but a lot of desire to highlight local talent and be a voice of the community much like KVMR is out of Nevada City. I would appreciate any input and expertise you may offer as to how to get started. Who should I solicit and how much capital does one need to get a station on the air?
    Sincerely yours David Cole. 622-xxxx

If you have questions regarding putting up a radio station please contact me at Folkmuse@thefolkmuse.com. I can give you the information you are asking for.

    • folkmuse

Contact me, Folkmuse@thefolkmuse.com. I can give you the information you are requesting as well as the organizations to contact. There is an opening for Low Power FM coming in October. You will have to have all of your ducks in a row so to speak. There are two open frequencies in Placerville as well as two in Coloma. Only a non-profit organization can receive a Construction Permit to build a non-commercial broadcast station.
